PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recognizing characters in a portable terminal with an image input part.

SOLUTION: In the portable terminal having an image input part which can photograph an image and a memory which can store the image therein, the method for automatically recognizing a photographed image in an automatic recognition mode in which characters can be recognized automatically comprises the steps of setting the automatic recognition mode and making control, in the preset automatic recognition mode, the photographed image to be stored in the memory, the characters to be recognized from the photographed image and then the characters to be stored.
