PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of properly setting the resolution of image data without troubling a user in the case of converting the resolution of the image data read by a scanner or the like. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: an entry means for using a CCD line sensor 31 to read an image of an original to which a pattern image representing font information is attached and for entering image data; a pattern detection section 36 for detecting the pattern image from the image data entered by the input means; a pattern analysis section 37 for analyzing the pattern image detected by the pattern detection section 36 to recognize the font information; and a resolution conversion circuit 34 for setting a resolution conversion condition on the basis of the font information recognized by the pattern analysis section 37 and converting the resolution of the image data obtained by reading the image of the original according to the resolution conversion condition.
