The object of the invention is coated base paper. According to the invention, it comprises cellulose fibres based pigment-coated paper having 1 to 5 barrier layers. The barrier layer comprises a barrier chemical selected from the group comprising polyvinyl alcohol, acrylate-based barrier latexes and their mixtures. The object of the invention is also a method for the manufacture of coated base paper.
