1,098,400. Catamenial tampons. DR. CARL HAHN KOMM. GES. Oct. 18, 1965 [Oct. 22, 1964], No. 43978/65. Heading A5R. A catamenial tampon comprises a rolled pad of cotton wool 2 having a draw thread 68 coiled and pressed into the end of the pad, the tampon being formed in apparatus which includes a mandrel 3 on which the pad 4 and thread are wound, a sleeve 5 which presses the coiled thread into the pad, and a transfer member 56 which passes the thread in a loop from a guide member 59 to notches in the mandrel 3. A motor 31 (Figure 1, not shown) causes the mandrel 3 to rotate about its axis, and the mandrel and the sleeve 5 to reciprocate parallel to this axis through a rack and pinion mechanism and through cam and lever mechanisms respectively. A shuttle member 64 (Figures 8 and 13, not shown) passes the thread from a spool 67 around the pad 4 and the guide member 59 and a mechanism (not described) knots the thread into a loop. The guide member 59 is caused to rotate and is formed with a spiral-shaped surface which lifts the loop to the transfer member 56. The pad 4 is gripped in a slot formed longitudinally in the mandrel 3 in the region of the pad. |
