<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive supporting device for a vehicle with a sensing technology allowing a driver to be provided just enough information by sensing matching to a cognitive characteristics of the driver in consideration both of the cognitive characteristics and the sensing property of the driver. <P>SOLUTION: The supporting device comprises an environment detection means 13 having a function capable of detecting a body existing in an environment in which a vehicle travels with multi-step accuracy, and a function capable of arbitrarily setting a range conducing the detection of the body existing in the environment in which the vehicle travels; an information presenting means 14 for presenting information to the driver; a driving behavior detection means 10 for detecting the driving behavior of the driver; and a cognitive state determining means 11 for determining the cognitive state of the driver according to the detected driving behavior of the driver.
