<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal apparatus which can be switched between reflection type display and transmission type display and which does not cause a double image due to parallax or smeared image in the display but can display a high-quality image in both of the reflection type display mode and the transmission type display mode by using a relatively simple apparatus configuration. <P>SOLUTION: In a dark place, when a back light 218 is lighted, transmission type display is performed since the light from the light source passes through the gap of a reflective layer 216 via a polarizing plate 208 or the like. Since the external light entering through the polarizing plate 205 or the like in a bright place is reflected on the reflective layer 216, reflection type display is performed. A transparent electrode 215 one size larger than the reflective layer 216 is formed on the reflective layer 216 so that the light from the light source passing through the gap of the reflective layer 216 transmits a transparent electrode 215 part protruding from the reflective layer 216. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
