HIGH-PRESSURE DISCHARGE LAMP LIGHTING DEVICE AND LIGHTING EQUIPMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and inexpensive high-pressure discharge lamp lighting device capable of reducing stress to the electrode of a discharge lamp by improving the starting waveform of the high-pressure discharge lamp to extend the service life of the discharge lamp. SOLUTION: This high-pressure discharge lamp lighting device is characterised by being provided with: a D.C. power source 1; a polarity inversion circuit 2 having a series circuit of at least one set of switching elements for converting a D.C. voltage from the D.C. power source into a rectangular-wave voltage; a high-pressure discharge lamp La to which the rectangular-wave voltage from the inversion circuit 2 is applied; a control circuit 3 for controlling the switching elements; and a storage part 5 for storing a time until a transition voltage appears in the lamp voltage in a starting period until the discharge lamp La is lit after it is started. The control circuit 3 forcibly inverts the polarity of the voltage applied to the discharge lamp La before the time stored in the storage part 5 elapses in the starting period of the discharge lamp La.
