PURPOSE: A system and method for controlling the rotation of a spindle motor in an optical disc reproducing device are provided to check a current servo state, and in a case that the servo state is abnormal, to supply a reverse/forward voltage to a spindle motor alternately in order to stop the spindle motor, and then to open a tray. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a spindle motor(20), a motor driver(30), an optical pickup(40), an error detector(60), a servo controller(70), and a central controller(80). The error detector(60) detects a focusing and a tracking error of the optical pickup(40) and generates feedback signals by using optical data transmitted by the optical pickup(40). The servo controller(70) transmits a servo tracking control signal to the motor driver(30) and performs the focusing and the tracking error control of the optical pickup(40). The central controller(80) checks whether the servo state is normal, monitors a rotation of an optical disc(10) in a case that the servo state is normal while stopping the spindle motor and opening a tray after a delay time has passed in a case that the servo state is abnormal.
