PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for rapidly decomposing an organohalogen compound in soil by reduced power consumption to make the same harmless and markedly suppressing the production of red water. SOLUTION: This method for rapidly decomposing the organohalogen compound in soil is characterized in that an iron powder is added to and mixed with soil containing the organohalogen compound, and an anode and a cathode are provided in the soil containing the iron powder to pass a DC current through the soil.
