PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a flexible magnetic disk medium having high performance and high reliability and using an inexpensive ferromagnetic metal thin film as a magnetic layer, wherein system design using a high sensitive head of low wear resistance, such as an MR head and a GMR head, is made possible. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the flexible magnetic disk medium is characterized in that the magnetic layer consisting of the ferromagnetic metal thin film, a protective layer and a lubrication layer are formed in this order on at least one surface of a flexible polymer substrate and then the surface on the magnetic layer side is burnished by using a burnishing tape run along a backup roll or a backup pad.
