<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which occurrence of image fog is reliably suppressed and a clear image of high image quality is reliably obtained, even when a high-speed image forming process using a small particle diameter toner is applied. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a rotating image forming member is charged and exposed to form an electrostatic latent image, and the image forming member is rubbed with a magnetic brush of a two-component developer consisting of a toner and a carrier formed on a developer carrier disposed opposite to the image forming member by way of a development region. An electric field for development prepared by superposing an alternating electric field on a DC electric field is formed in the development region, whereby the electrostatic latent image is subjected to reversal development and normal rotation development to form a toner image. The toner has a volume average particle diameter of 3-5 μm, the carrier has a volume average particle diameter of 15-50 μm and an intensity of magnetization of 30-80 emu/g, and the developing process is carried out in a state satisfying specified conditions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
