<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieval system, a meta-information providing device, an information providing device, an information receiving device, and an information retrieving method that can retrieve target contents by retrieving contents whose attribute information etc., related to non-target contents is nearly equal or similar even when the non-target contents are selected. <P>SOLUTION: In the information retrieval system, the information providing device is equipped with an identification information transmission part which transmits a meta-information reference ID for identifying meta-information to the information receiving device, which is equipped with an identification information reception part receiving the meta-information reference ID sent from the information providing device, an inquiry information generation part generating inquiry information for contents that the information providing device has according to the meta-information reference ID, and an inquiry information transmission part; and the meta-information providing device is equipped with a meta-information retrieval part which retrieves meta-information according to the inquiry information from the information receiving device, an attribute retrieval part which retrieves meta-information having nearly the same attribute with the meta-information or similar attribute, and a meta-information transmission part which transmits the meta-information to the information receiving device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
