PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for route guidance capable of instantaneously grasping map information, guidance information, etc. in the vicinity of a present location at guidance on a right turn, or a left turn, etc. SOLUTION: The route guidance apparatus 1 is provided with a present location detecting means 2; a route guidance means 5 for creating guidance information on a route to a destination; and a display means 10 capable of displaying a present location symbol indicating the present location on a peripheral map of the present location. The route guidance apparatus 1 is additionally provided with a present location symbol altering means 8 capable of displaying a guidance information symbol indicating guidance information changed from the present location symbol at the approach of an object location of guidance with the peripheral map in the present location on the display means 10.
