PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flexible magnetic disk medium having high performance and high reliability and using an inexpensive ferromagnetic metal thin film as a magnetic layer, wherein system design using a high sensitive head of low wear resistance, such as an MR head and a GMR head, is made possible. SOLUTION: The flexible magnetic disk medium has the magnetic layer consisting of the ferromagnetic metal thin film on at least one surface of a flexible polymer substrate. The surface on the magnetic layer side of the flexible magnetic disk medium has 15 to 40 nm ten point average roughness Rz measured by an atomic force microscope and 0.1 to 10 pieces/μm<SP>2</SP>protrusions existing at 10 nm height from a standard surface.
