<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording material for a water-based ink, which can realize recording with no significant ink spreading, high resolution and high image quality and the like by forming a surface layer on a substrate, and to provide a recording material, which can realize recording with further suppressed ink spreading, higher resolution, and good image quality and the like, can realize the removal of a water-based ink record and can be reusable, by forming a crosslinked surface layer on a substrate. <P>SOLUTION: In this recording material for a water-based ink, a surface layer containing hydroxypropylcellulose as a resin component is provided on a substrate.
