PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a dead band for a joystick, and to satisfy operability and functionality. SOLUTION: This drive controller for controlling a drive unit is provided with the joystick 11 having operation levers 13A, 13B restorable to a neutral position p, and a control means for controlling the drive unit at a speed in response to an oscillation angle of the joystick, and for moving the drive unit at the maximum speed when the operation levers are brought into the maximum oscillation angle. The control means determines an oscillation angleθof the operation levers, outputs a stopping command to the drive unit when the oscillation angleθis determined to be within a preset stopping command angle area q from the neutral position p, and command-controls the drive unit at a speed corresponding to the oscillation angle of the operation levers, with a speed more than 0 to the maximum speed within a speed variable angle area s, when the oscillation angleθis determined to be within the speed variable angle area provided by subtracting the stopping command angle area q from an oscillating angle area r.
