PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymeric material useful for an electrode for use in a secondary battery having high speed response and high energy density, having high stability, and useful for a catalyst capable of reacting at high efficiency. SOLUTION: This new polyaniline derivative is represented by following formula (1) (wherein R1, R2, R3and R4are each an aliphatic hydrocarbon group which may have the same or different substituent, an aromatic hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent, or a halogen atom, R1and R4and/or R2and R3may form a ring through linkage, R5is an aromatic hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent, and n is an integer of 2-5,000 showing a degree of polymerization).
