CELL LINE AND BIOASSAY METHOD USING THE SAME

A method of assaying the biological activity of human-origin hepatocyte growth factor (hHGF) by using a modified cell line PLC/PRF/5/MPC (Deposition No. FERM BP-10023). In the case of adding human-origin hepatocyte growth factor (hHGF) at a concentration physiologically acceptable by the cells, this cell line, which is a hepatic cell line capable of expressing c-Met, exhibits an ability to express c-Met at a level twice or more as high as the expression level in the absence of hHGF. A method of biologically assaying human-origin hepatocyte growth factor (hHGF) by using this hepatic cell line which comprises culturing the hepatic cell line in a serum-free medium and adding human-origin hepatocyte growth factor (hHGF) to the medium to thereby measure the titer of the human-origin HGF.
