<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently obtain an amount of over-run in a stopping position when a development cartridge with greatly unbalanced load is detected and to perform a steady operation for lock engagement. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier on which electrostatic latent images are formed; a rotary development device 1 that rotates having in a rotary frame a plurality of detachable development cartridges used for developing electrostatic latent images formed on the image carrier; a plurality of parts 41 to be engaged in correspondence with the development cartridge mounting parts of the rotary frame; and an engaging part 46 that is disposed on the device main body and selectively engages with one of the parts to be engaged. An amount of over-run in the stopping position of the rotary development device 1 under stop control during the development cartridge replacement operation is set larger than that under stop control during development color switching operation for the development of the electrostatic latent images. The stop control is exerted in such a manner that the engaging part 46 is pressed, the rotary development device 1 is over-run and rotated in the stopping position, and engaged with the part 41 to be engaged. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
