PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable drill capable of reducing the whole weight by lightening an acceleration mechanism and taking measures to prevent a drill head from falling to increase the safety of excavation work. SOLUTION: In the portable drill equipped with a guide frame 2, a slide table 3 slidably supported by the guide frame 2 in the longitudinal direction and mounting the drill head 9 thereon and the acceleration mechanism for sliding the slide table 3 by manual operation, the acceleration mechanism is constituted by having a chain 14 provided on the surface of the guide frame 2 along the longitudinal direction thereof, a sprocket 15 pivoted on the slide table 3 and carrying out travel rotation by engaging with the chain 14, an arm 16 provided on the shaft of the sprocket 15 and rotating the sprocket and lock mechanisms 20, 24 and 25 preventing the rotation by locking the sprocket 15 and, at the same time, they can release the lock.
