The invention provides white-emitting compounds which are novel substances capable of emitting white light in spite of their being single compounds, a process by which such novel white-emitting compounds can be easily produced; and white-emitting devices containing the single white-emitting compounds. The white-emitting compounds are characterized by being represented by the general formula (1) wherein R<1> is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or specific aryl with the proviso that the case wherein both R<1>'s are hydrogen is excluded.
