PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for switching a filter of a camera are provided to determine the position of the filter correctly so as to perform an efficient switching operation of the filter by supplying a sensing function without including a separate sensor. CONSTITUTION: A camera includes at least two lens filters capable of switch to a front position of a lens. Information of the first filter before the switch is stored, wherein the first filter will be switched to the front position of the lens(S410). Information of the second filter after the switch is stored, wherein the second filter has been switched to the front position of the lens(S430). A memory filter mode, related to the second filter that is currently located at the front position thereof, is set on the basis of comparison between the information aforementioned. The memory filter mode is compared with a menu filter mode related to the first filter that will be located to the front position thereof and thereby it is determined whether the second filter has to be switched to another position(S450). The second filter is switched to another position according to a result of the determination.
