A heating assembly (6) having a press roller (24) which has an elastic layer (24b) incorporated dispersedly with voids formed by resin microballoons (24c). The press roller (24) has a low thermal conductivity, hence heat from a heating means (22) can effectively be utilized. It has also a low hardness, so that a pressure contact nip (N) formed between the press roller (24) and the heating means (22) can be made wider. There is also disclosed a process for forming a silicone rubber sponge and a method of forming a roller using the silicone rubber sponge.
