The sealing system for use between a shaft (1) and machine casing (2) divides the space between them into a chamber (A) which contains a viscous or liquid material and a second chamber (B) which does not. It consists of an inner ring (3) attached to the shaft with a flexible sealing lip (4) which presses a wedge (6) on an outer ring (5) attached to the casing against the shaft as it rotates. Annular grooves (7, 8) between the rings connect with chamber A and B respectively. The groove (7) which connects with chamber (A) slopes so that the wall (14) of the outer ring is behind the wall (15) of the inner ring. |
