[Class 83 (iii).] A work support for bar stock in lathes is arranged so that wear and noise, due to the movement of the work rod, are reduced to a minimum. The form shown in the Figure comprises a coil spring c separated from a tube a by a layer of some damping medium d, such as rubber, and maintained in position by closing sleeves b. A modification consists in reducing the clearance between the spring and housing tube, and providing holes in the tube so that oil or similar lubricating medium may be introduced to provide a damping effect. |
