1469741 2 - Phenyl - 2(2,2 - dichloroalkyl) oxiranes DOW CHEMICAL CO 1 May 1975 [3 May 1974] 18286/75 Heading C2C 2 - Phenyl - 2(2,2 - dichloroethyl) oxiranes of general formula where X is H, Cl or CH 3 ; each R is Br, Cl, F, C 1-3 alkyl or alkoxy, CF 3 or NO 2 ; and R is H, Br, Cl, F, C 1-3 alkyl or alkoxy, CF 3 or NO 2 , are prepared by treating a substituted styrene of general formula with a suitable carboxylic acid reactant, e.g. ClCH 2 COOH, CF 3 COOH, perbenzoic and peracetic acids. Amongst numerous examples the compounds 2-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)-2-(2,2,2-trichloroethyl) oxirane and 2-(2,2-dichloroethyl)- 2-(3,5-dimethylphenyl) oxirane are prepared. Herbicidal compositions contain as active ingredient a compound of Formula I in admixture with a carrier. |
