A quasi-continuous on-line water quality measuring apparatus operates in the absence of inorganic hydrocarbons to determine the microbiological water quality. The apparatus has a micro-electrolysis chamber from which air is excluded and in which regular water samples are subjected to an electro-catalytic germ-killing process. The chamber has a number micro-sensor pipettes extending into the micro-electrolysis cell of. The sensors detect pH, and the presence of oxygen and carbon dioxide. An independent claim is included for determining the on-line microbiological water quality.
