1,134,968. Polyvinyl alcohol filaments. KURASHIKI RAYON K.K. 27 July, 1967 [5 Aug., 1966; 11 Oct., 1966], No. 34657/67. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Films and fibres are made from a polyvinyl alcohol composition consisting of (a) 0.1 to 80% by weight of polyvinyl alcohol having a polymerization degree of between 150 and 3000, a saponification degree of at least 95 mol per cent and as terminal group a group selected from R-CH 2 - and R-CH 2 -S-, where R is a saturated non-cyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 5-29 carbon atoms, and R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, sodium or potassium, and (b) 99.9 to 20% by weight of polyvinyl alcohol free from said terminal groups and having a saponification degree of at least 95 mol per cent. In Example 7 a composition is spun using a spinning machine having 100 orifices and a coagulating bath consisting of a first bath of Glauber's salt aqueous solution at 40‹ C. and a second bath of Glauber's salt aqueous solution at 80‹ C. |
