PURPOSE: Health food containing an extract of butterbur is provided, which butterbur extract has a memory improving activity without side-effects, so that it can be useful for prevention and treatment of brain diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease and amnesia. CONSTITUTION: The health food contains the extract of butterbur, wherein the extract of butterbur is prepared by adding 5 to 100% of ethanol solution into butterbur, adding ethylacetate solution into the mixture to separate a water-soluble layer, and isolating the butterbur extract from the water-soluble layer; the health food has a formation selected from tablets, granules, soft capsule and solution; and the health food is drink or tea.
