PURPOSE: Provided are a polymer composition and a process for preparing polymer of multifunctional emulsion for modification of hair. The polymer has well balanced water proof and water sensitivity, excellent color stability and water stability, and stable viscosity. CONSTITUTION: The multifunctional polymer is characterized by containing, as a monomeric unit, 50-89.9 wt.% of acrylamide and 10-40 wt.% of 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propansulfonate and salt thereof, and by incorporating 0.1-5 wt.% of one or more acid-containing ethylenic unsaturated monomers into the copolymer.
