<p>The invention solves the problem of simple manufacture, positioning and application of a microlens on top of an optical fibre. The manufacturing process is based on selective etching of gradient doped silicon fibre, welded to the end of the optical fibre or spacer, where a lens needs to be applied. The etching is performed in HB, BHF or other glass etching agents, where the etching speed depends on the concentration of dopants. The etching speed of the top of the gradient fibre is thus dependant on the local concentration of dopants, which can be well controlled through the process of optical fibre manufacture. The consequence of the different etching progress in the radial direction of the gradient fibre is that its top is transformed into a convex or other required shape, which serves as a microlens. Even the assembly and manufacture of the assembly, which enables the positioning of the microlens at any distance from the top of the supply or drain optical fibre by using the spacer is described.</p> |
