The device includes at least one reduction catalyst (2), dynamic or mechanical means of introducing air into the exhaust gases and finally an oxidation catalyst (5). The richness of the mixture is adjusted to be very slightly rich, with less than 5% excess fuel, by a controller operated by an oxygen probe (7) to achieve the reduction catalysis in the catalyst. The air is introduced after the catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides by a system of air flooding in which the air is drawn dynamically through orifices (4) by the speed of the exhaust gases at the level of a narrow neck (3). Alternatively, the air is introduced by a turbine or other mechanical means which can introduce a sufficient quantity of air to achieve oxidation in the catalyzer. Means of regulating the flow of additional air is placed between the catalysts. The catalysts are deposited on metallic supports.
