PURPOSE: A method for controlling a cooling time is provided to reduce a standby time in power on/off when performing a before/after cooling operation of a projection TV. CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer drives a lamp protection fan according to the power of the microcomputer(201-203). The microcomputer simultaneously starts counting when the lamp protection fan is driven(204,205). If the counted value is within a previously set random time, the microcomputer sets an after-cooling time which is shorter than the random time(206). If the power is not supplied(201-1), the microcomputer stops the operation of the lamp protection fan(208) and simultaneously starts the counting(209,210). If a value counted according to the stop of the lamp protection fan exceeds a random time according to a predetermined fan stop signal, the microcomputer recognizes time completion and turns on the power without performing a before-cooling operation(211).
