The method involves partially closing a friction clutch during which an input shaft is rotatably connected with an engine shaft by the clutch. An indication of variation of rotation rate of the engine shaft is evaluated. The clutch is totally closed if the evaluation of the indication is positive and is controlled towards an opening position if the evaluation is not positive.
