Plastics cage for roller bearing - has inward pointing projections on outer edges of rings forming permanent retainers

A plastics cage for a roller bearing is able to hold the rollers in position when the outer race is removed. The cage (2) is made of two parallel rings joined by cross bars (3) which form slots to receive the rollers (1). The outer edges of the rings have inward pointing projections (51) with a central slot parallel to the axis of the rollers (1). After the roller has been inserted between the cross-bars a suitable tool is inserted into the slot in the projection (5) to force the walls of the slot apart and form a permanent retainer for the roller.
