Isocyanate trimers (or mixtures) (I) based on aliphatic,cycloaliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic mono- or poly-isocyanates (II) with a NCO content of less than 70%, optionally with other substituents in the organic groups, such as carbonyl or carboxyl groups or hetero atoms (or groups thereof) (halogen, O, S, N, P, Si, Sn, B), comprising mixtures of isocyanurate and imino- oxadiazinedione structures (formula A and B respectively) in the range from 70 mole% A plus 30 mole% B to 100 mole% B, with a mole ratio of trimer (A + B) to uretedione of more than 4:1 and with a content of uretonimines of less than 10 mole%. Also claimed are (i) mixtures of (I) with other isocyanate derivatives, e.g. urethane-("prepolymer")-, allophanate-, urea-, biuret-, uretedione- ("dimer") and/or oxadiazinetrione types, optionally substituted with NCO, CO or COOH groups or hetero units as above; and (ii) a process for the production of (I) by catalytic trimerisation of (II) with a NCO content of less than 75%, optionally substituted etc. as above.
