The invention relates to a gas accumulator for storing a predetermined gas quantity and for releasing said gas for medical use. The aim of said invention is to avoid the use of a non-controlled mixture of a gas with ambient air during the storage or extraction thereof by means of the inventive gas accumulator and to carry out a simple and reliable sterilisation of said gas. For this purpose, said gas accumulator is provided with an adsorbent for adsorbing a predetermined gas quantity to be extracted by desorption at an ambient temperature for a medical, in particular ophtalmological use. Said invention also relates to the use of said gas accumulator for ophthalmology when the extracted gas is used, in particular for an intraocular gas tamponade. A method for producing said gas accumulator is also disclosed.
