Methods and associated systems are described for POS devices and associated monitoring and diagnotic applications. POS peripherals (126) in a POS device (100) include data memory for storing device configuration and status information. A diagnostic application (124) installed in the POS device (100 ) monitors and diagnoses the POS device (100). The diagnostic application monitors the interactions between hardware in the POS device and application s that interface with the hardware. The diagnostic applications (124) analyze these interactions, the configuration and status information and any logs it creates to provide diagnostic information. The POS device (100) also include s several interfaces to access the diagnostic application.
