摘要 <p>Preparation of a composite of hydrophobic amorphous silica involves reacting an amorphous silica having hydroxyl groups on its surface with a combination of a blocked mercaptoalkoxysilane and an alkylsilane. Preparation of a composite of hydrophobic amorphous silica involves reacting an amorphous silica having hydroxyl groups on its surface with a combination of a blocked mercaptoalkoxysilane and an alkylsilane of formula (I). The blocked mercaptoalkoxysilane is a compound of formula (II) or (III). Z n-Si-R 4 - n (I) [[(ROC(=O)) p-(G) j] k-Y-S] r-G-(SiX 3) s (II) or [(X 3Si) q-G] a-[Y-[S-G-SiX 3] b] c (III). R : saturated 1-18C alkyl (preferably 1-8C alkyl) radical; n : 1 - 3; Z : chlorine, bromine or alkoxy radical; Y : a polyvalent species (Q 2)A(=E) (preferably -C(=NR)-, -SC(=NR)-, -SC(=O)-, (-NR)C(=O), (-NR)C(=S), -OC(=O), OC(=S), C(=O), SC(=S), C(=S), S(=O), OS(=O) 2, ( NR)S(=O) 2, SS(=O)-, -OS(=O)-, (-NR)S(=O)-, -SS(=O) 2, (-S) 2P(=O)-, -(-S)P(=O)-, -P(=S) 2, (-NR) 2P(=O)-, (-NR)(-S)P(=O)-, (-O) 2P(=O)-, -(-O)P(=O)-, -(-NR)P(=O)-, (NR) 2P(=S)-, (-NR)(-S)P=S-, (-O)(-NR)P(=S)-, (-O)(-S)P(=S)-, (-O) 2P(=S)-, -(-O)P(=S) or -(-NR)P(=S-); R : optionally unsaturated 1-18C alkyl, 1-18C alkenyl, 1-18C aryl, 1-18C aralkyl or H; G : 1-18C monovalent or 1-18C polyvalent group derived from substitution of alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl group(s); X : -Cl, GR, RO, RC(=O), R 2C=NO, R 2NO, R 2N, R, (OSiR 2) or (OSiR 3); Q : O, S or (NR); A : C, S, P or sulfonyl; E : O, S or NR; p : 0 - 5; r, b : 1 - 3; z : 0 - 2; q : 0 - 6; a : 0 - 7; j : 0 - 4 (preferably 1 - 4); t : 0 - 5; s : 1 - 3; k : 1 or 2. The atom (A) is attached to the unsaturated heteroatom (E) which is attached to the sulfur, and the sulfur is linked via a group G to the silicon atom. Provided that: (1) G is not such that the mercaptoalkoxysilane contains an alpha-, or beta-unsaturated carbonyl including a carbon to carbon double bond next to the thiocarbonyl group, where if G is univalent (e.g. if p is 0), then G is H; (2) at least one X is not R; (3) if p is 1 and c is 1 - 6, then j is 0; (4) if A is C, S or sulfonyl, then a+b is 2 and k is 1; (5) if c is greater than 1 and b is 1, where a is c+1, then A is P and a+b is c; (6) if A is P, then k is 2. An independent claim is included for two methods for the preparation of a rubber composition comprising: (a) Process A: mixing at least one conjugated diene-based elastomer with the hydrophobic amorphous silica composite, and mixing an unblocking agent with the resulting mixture followed by sulfur vulcanization; or (b) Process B: mixing at least one conjugated diene-based elastomer (100 pbw) with reinforcing filler (10 - 120 phr) at 140 170[deg]C, mixing an unblocking agent with the mixture at 100 - 125[deg]C and concurrently or then mixing sulfur curative with it at 100 - 125[deg]C, and curing the resulting mixture at an elevated temperature of 140 - 170[deg]C. The reinforcing filler comprises an hydrophobic amorphous silica composite and optionally at least one additional reinforcing filler selected from carbon black and an additional synthetic amorphous silica, and optionally a coupling agent for the additional synthetic amorphous silica.</p>
