Disclosed is a granulate made of broken pieces of a body (21, 21') that is sintered from ground blow-molded glass. The broken surfaces of said granulat e (21, 21') comprise a plurality of inclusions of at least one active substanc e (17, 27) that is embedded in the sintered body (21, 21') as granular materia l. Said active substance is able to interact with harmful substances, especiall y harmful substances suspended or dissolved in water, when entering in contact therewith. Such a granulate can be produced in many different ways regarding the active substance, compressive strength, specific weight, grain size, etc . and are versatile as a consequence. The inventive granulate can be used as a construction material in environmentally sensitive areas in the form of brok en pieces of cellular glass regardless of the presence of initial materials containing arsenic or antimony while also being usable in the form of expand ed or unexpanded sintered bodies for purifying water, for example. Metals, particularly metallic iron, active carbon, or water-soluble substances, can be used as an active substance according to the intended use thereof. |
