A picker (30) mounted on carriage (40) to a transfer shaft (44) moves with carriage through first displacement path and moves on transfer shaft through second displacement path. A lift assembly (42) has a guide track aligned along first displacement path in the media storage system (12). The carriage includes the transfer shaft aligned along the second displacement path in the media storage system. The transfer shaft is operatively associated with the guide track of the lift assembly to move the carriage along the guide track through the first displacement path.
