The invention concerns a mink production cage. The cage is of a type which consists of an oblong, box-shaped compartment made principally of wire mesh. This wire mesh cage has a built-in or added partly closed nesting box which is usually made of chipboard or MDF. The mink can enter the nesting box from the cage. The cage is designed for placement in a row in a mink house at a suitable height over the floor, so that there is a free floor area under the cages for collection of droppings. Each cage is designed for two animals, to be kept in the cage from whelps until skinning. The invention is distinguished by the fact that the nesting box consists of a piece of flexible plastic or metal plate, which is inserted into the top of the cage via the two parallel slots. When sliding into the slots, the panel is forced to assume a gently curved form with the curvature turned downwards. An almost crib-shaped compartment is thus produced inside the cage, limited below by the panel and above by the cage's mesh top. This enclosure is the nesting box. The tension in the panel and the friction in the slots are such that together, the panel is retained in position. When the cage is emptied, one side of the panel is pulled up, forcing the animals out of the nesting box. The animals can then be caught relatively easily in the mesh cage itself, access to which from outside is significantly better than in the nesting box.
|
