Digital subscriber line access network with improved authentication, authorization, accounting and configuration control for multicast services

The network has a content network comprising a broadband remote access and local servers providing connectivity to Internet for a user. A digital broadcast network (DN) broadcasts audio and video contents to the user. The access network couples a digital subscriber line access multiplexer to a set top box. The multiplexer is coupled to a remote authentication dial-in user server to authenticate multicast services. An independent claim is also included for a method for authenticating a multicast subscriber requesting to become member of a multicast group for receiving multicast data.
