The aftercooler assembly(26) has an elongated coolant tube bundle(72) supported by plates spaced between heat exchange fins to form an aftercooler core(70). The support plates(76) are secured to opposed walls forming a part of the aftercooler housing. This arrangement permits a simplified and economical aftercooler core. The core has several elongated pipes extending lengthwise in an open trough. Thin fins are positioned across the pipes to increase the heat exchange effect.
