A flexible first wall (7) of a channel (4) is pushed towards the opposing second wall (8) so that a first phase (2) is pushed along the channel away from its open end (5) and up and over a sloping section (11) of the second wall whilst the second phase (3) beneath is unable to pass over the slope. A device (1) for separating two liquid phases whereby one phase floats on top of the other comprises a channel with an open end for receiving the two phases and a feed device (6) for transporting at least one of the phases along the channel away from its open end. The channel is formed by a flexible first wall and an opposing second wall and the feed device applies a force to the outside of the first wall so that is pressed towards the second wall, so that some of the phase is pushed along the channel away from its open end. The second wall comprises a first section (10) next to the open end of the channel and a second section located further away from this open end and sloping relative to the first section. The floating phase is pushed up and over the slope, whilst the phase beneath is unable to pass over the slope. An independent claim is also included for a floating support installation which includes this phase separation device.
