FIELD: gas treatment. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to treatment of emission gases at chemical and metallurgical enterprises. Removal of sulfur comprises contacting emission gases with water and absorption of sulfur dioxide by continuously passing gases in countercurrent to moving water flow and continuously withdrawing sulfur dioxide-saturated water solution. The latter is cooled to temperature between -5 and +5 to form solid-phase sulfur dioxide crystal hydrates. Precipitate is separated from wash water and melted. Gas-phase melting products of sulfur dioxide crystal hydrates are freed of water and then liquefied by cooling resulting from adiabatic expansion or throttling. Liquid sulfur dioxide is further used as heat carrier in indirect heat exchange with above-mentioned sulfur dioxide-saturated solution to lower temperature of solution in crystal hydrate formation step. ^ EFFECT: reduced process expenses. ^ 2 cl, 1 dwg, 2 ex |
