FIELD: measurement technology; quality control of petroleum oil products by electric methods. ^ SUBSTANCE: proposed method for evaluating freezing temperature causing failure of fluidity of analyzed product (motor oil, diesel fuel, petroleum oil, fuel oil) involves following procedures. Motor oil freezing temperature is found by cooling down oil sample followed by its heating and evaluation of freezing temperature by point of inflection. Analyzed sample is cooled down to temperature below freezing point, intensity of light flux and current temperature are recorded. After sample has frozen, magnet is placed on motor oil surface, and sample is heated to temperature recovering its fluidity. Magnet blocks light beam under action of gravity force and closes electric reed relay circuit. Freezing temperature of motor oil is recognized by minimal signal of light flux and maximal signal arriving from reed relay circuit. Device implementing this method has power supply, cryostat and sample tray, light flux radiation source, light detector, reed relay, temperature sensor, sensor signal amplifier, reed relay closing circuit, timer, display, and microprocessor. Power supply is connected to light emitter. Temperature sensor is mounted in vial. Light detector is connected to light signal amplifier.
