In a papermaking process calcium carbonate is introduced to a fibrous suspension in which there is an initial concentration of between 0.1 % and 60% loose fibre in water. Liquid or solid calcium hydroxide, or calcium oxide, is admixed (44) to the fibre suspension, or into dilution water that is then admixed to a suspension. Carbon dioxide gas is admixed to the resulting mixture, precipitating calcium carbonate. The reaction between carbon dioxide with calcium hydroxide precipitates calcium carbonate. The energy input required for the precipitation of calcium carbonate is between 0.5 and 4 kWh/t. The process temperature is between 20 and 120 [deg] C. The resulting calcium carbonate forms crystals of size 0.3 m to 2.5 m which are distributed by an active mixing process.
|
