The electrical machine has a stator (3) enclosing a coaxial rotor (2), mounted on a rotor shaft (1), fitted with an axial ventilation fan (9) for cooling the stator. The hub (10) of the ventilation fan has one or more axial openings (13) for feeding cooling air to the rotor. An independent claim for a method for cooling an electrical machine is also included.
