Frames for carrying packs invariably place it on the wearer's back because o f the lack of reliable vertical support on the front of the body. This results in the wearer carryi ng an eccentric load that can be awkward and stressful to carry. In leaning forward to compensate for the eccentricity some of the load comes onto the back and can eliminate ventilation, compounding t he discomfort. The high loads on the upper body are especially difficult on women. The subject invention combines an over-the-shoulder, inverted "U" beam structure to which both back and front packs attach, with hip pieces designed to mold over the hips as a result of the pack loads coming down the beams. The hip pieces are kept in place by an ordinary belt around the waist. The upper body is bypassed in carrying the load and balanced fron t and back packs can eliminate load eccentricity.
